Assistantships

School of Music Graduate Assistantships
(Apply by March 1 for Fall admission)

  • Stipend amount: varies from $6,000-$14,000 per year (includes a possible supplemental award to outstanding doctoral students).
  • Award waives non-resident tuition; student must pay resident tuition/fees.
  • Duties: 10 to 20 hours per week, depending upon award size
    • Duty assignment areas: teaching, accompanying, research and teaching assistance, recording, clerical.
  • Summer tuition is waived after holding assistantship for two semesters.
  • Early application is advised (awards offered beginning March 1).
  • Secure application from School of Music, Office of the Director of Graduate Studies

(The SOM application serves as the application for assistantships.)

Other Awards

  • Minority Tuition Waivers (Apply by February 15 for fall admission)
    • Eligibility: minority, or citizen of country under-represented in the University population. (Highest preference is given to students from Latin-American countries and to African-Americans).

  • Each year, numerous music scholarships are available through the gifts of alumni and patrons. All School of Music applicants are automatically considered for these opportunities

Financial Aid

Loans and grants are administered by the University's Student Aid and Scholarship Office.
