Auditions

Audition Dates | Schedule an Audition/Contact Faculty | Suggested Audition Repertoire

Before a student can be admitted as a music major, music education major, or Bachelor of Arts in music major, she/he must audition for the appropriate applied music faculty. Taped auditions are acceptable in some areas, although a personal audition is preferred. On-campus auditions also give prospective students an opportunity to tour our facilities, meet with other students, and meet with applied faculty.

Prospective students should check the on-campus audition schedule for the appropriate dates for their instrument or discipline. Audition requirements vary between areas; it is best to contact the applied music professor for specific requirements.

Suggested Audition Repertoire

The audition repertoires listed below are suggested for potential undergraduate music majors.

Auditionees in all areas may be asked to sightread a short selection. All students should contact the individual faculty member for more detailed audition repertoire information.

Accompanists are not necessary for instrumental auditions. Voice auditions will have accompanists provided, though you may bring your own if you choose.

You may also want to submit repertoire lists and letters of reference from private teachers if applicable. Some areas encourage an interview with the appropriate faculty member and/or an essay describing your musical aspirations. Please contact the individual teacher if you have any questions about the audition process or repertoire.
