The Bachelor of Music degree is offered with nine areas of concentration: voice, piano, organ, strings, harp, brass, woodwinds, percussion, and composition. The degree is designed to prepare students for the world of performance. Upon graduation, many students continue their studies at the master's level, either at LSU or other prestigous institutions. This degree requires 130 credit hours for completion including 38 credit hours of general education requirements. Although the Bachelor of Music degree may be completed in four years, dropping courses, changing majors, or transferring from another institution may prolong this course of study. This curriculum guide is currently under revision. The right is reserved to make corrections or additions. Admission to this degree program is by audition only. Requirements and procedures vary from area to area; you are encouraged to check with the Associate Dean for the specific requirements of your instrument or voice type. Taped auditions are possible; however a live audition is preferable.
The LSU School of Music has an outstanding financial aid program for undergraduate students. one-half of resident tuition ($1,490 per year) to full nonresident tuition (approx. $11,280 per year). Scholarship offers are made only after students have been admitted to the University, and accepted into the School of Music. For scholarship awards to be continued the School of Music requires that a minimum cumulative GPA be maintained. |
