Sara Lynn Baird

Sara Lynn Baird (Stephanie Landry Barineau Professor in Choral Studies) serves as Associate Dean, Director of Graduate Studies, and Associate Professor of Choral Music at Louisiana State University where she conducts Schola Cantorum, a mixed choir, and teaches graduate and undergraduate Choral Conducting and Literature. Under her direction, Schola Cantorum, a large mixed choir, has performed frequently with the Louisiana Sinfonietta. Her choirs have performed at the Louisiana State Choral Director's Convention, and are frequently invited to do guest performances around the state.
The LSU Select Women's Ensemble under her direction appeared by invitation at the Southern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors' Association in 2002. From 2000-2003 she served as Artistic Director of the Louisiana Vocal Arts Chorale in New Orleans, presenting three to four concerts each year. In 2003 she was awarded the Tiger Athletic Foundation Teaching Award for the School of Music.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Baird received the Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance, Magna cum laude, from Florida State University; the Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati; and the Ph.D. degree in Music Education from Florida State University.
Baird has published an article in and contributed numerous choral reviews to the Choral Journal and has coauthored an article published in the Southeastern Journal of Music Education. Frequently asked to conduct festival choirs, she has conducted high school All-Parish, All-County, and All-District Honor Choirs in Louisiana and Florida and collegiate festival choirs in Alabama and West Virginia. Currently a member of ACDA, SAI, ODK, and CMS, Baird previously taught choral music at the high school level in Florida in Brevard and Hillsborough Counties and regularly serves as adjudicator and clinician throughout the southeastern United States. Baird currently serves as President for Southern Division ACDA and is on the National Board for ACDA. She was Convention Chair for the 2006 Southern Division ACDA Convention in Charleston, West Virginia in February 2006.
