Lin He
Born in Shanghai, China, Lin began his musical training at the age of five. Currently a Doctoral candidate at the Eastman School of Music, Mr. He works under the tutelage of Zvi Zeitlin. As a soloist and chamber musician, Mr. He has performed concertos with the Jiang Su Symphony, the Tuscarawas Philharmonic and the Wooster Symphony. He has also presented recitals at University of Utah, Ball State University, Middle Tennessee State University, North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Goshen College, University of Nebraska, Mount Union College, and Nanjing School of the Arts. As an orchestral player, Mr. He has played first violin in the Shanghai Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Boston Symphony, New World Symphony, Akron Symphony, Des Moines Symphony, Syracuse Symphony, Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and Aspen Chamber Symphony. Mr. He has worked under the direction of Abbado, Alsop, Conlon, DePreist, Foss, Giunta, Herbig, Hunsburger, Knussen, Jahja Ling, Menuhin, Ozawa, Previn, Robertson, Schuller, Seaman, Sidlin, Slatkin, Spano, Tate, Tilson Thomas, Tortelier, Vonk, de Waart, Wolff, and Zinman. Most recently, Mr. He was invited to the Rome Festival to be the concertmaster of its 2006 summer season. Other summer festival appearances have taken Mr. He to venues such as the Music Academy of the West (Stanley & Jeri Eigner Fellowship) and the Tanglewood Music Center (Stanley Chapple Fellowship). Mr. He performed the Bach Solo Sonata at Tanglewood, in Ozawa Hall, in 2001. In 2005, Mr. He appeared at the Aspen Music Festival (Toby Devan Lewis/Marilyn Wilmerding/Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Fellowship), where he served as Assistant Principal Second Violin for the Festival Orchestra and was the featured violinist for the world premiere concert of American-Chinese composer Huang Ruo. In 2006 and 2007, Mr. He served as the artist in residence at VIVACE String Camp, Houghton, New York, teaching violin and coaching chamber music. Lin He has won first prize in the Padesta Solo Competition and was a finalist in the ASTA competition, and Marlboro Music School and Festival. Mr. He has also received the Creative Achievement Award, the William Forest Chamber Music Award, and the 2003 John Celentano Award for Excellence in Chamber Music from the Eastman School of Music. Mr. He can be heard on broadcasts by KRDF, WPSU and WOI radio stations, and on the 8 CD set of The Complete Musician (a theory textbook written by Steven Laitz at the Eastman School of Music). Mr. He has previously taught at Drake University, Houghton College, College of Wooster, Eastman School of Music and Pennsylvania State University. He was a co-founder of the Melody Quartet at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and has been a member of the Eastman Chamber Music Society, the Serendipity String Quartet, and the Wooster Piano Trio. Mr. He has given master classes at Nanjing School of the Arts, Shanghai Normal University, Roosevelt (Iowa) High School and Olean (NY) High School. He was the featured guest speaker for the 2007 Drake University Music Education Symposium.
