Alison Nikitopoulos
Alison Nikitopoulos (Instructor of Music Appreciation). Nikitopoulos joined the LSU faculty in 1998 as an Instructor of Music Appreciation. She holds degrees in both musicology and vocal performance. In the area of musicology, her expertise lies primarily in the realm of nineteenth-century Italian opera. While in the final stages of completing her dissertation at Princeton University on Arrigo Boito's Mefistofele, she was simultaneously enrolled at LSU, earning a Masters degree in Vocal Performance. At LSU, she studied with Martina Arroyo, Stephen Austin, and Patricia O'Neill. Musicological publications include two short articles on operatic subjects in the Reader's Guide to Music, as well as an Italian article about Boito's library in Parma, and its relevance to the Faust legend as portrayed in Mefistofele. Operatic roles include Pamina in the final Baton Rouge Opera production of The Magic Flute, La Ciesca in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Lucia in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia. Nikitopoulos has also demonstrated a flare for Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, having been involved in G & S Societies in Princeton and in Baton Rouge. She has performed Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore, and Blanche in Princess Ida. In addition to teaching duties at LSU, Nikitopoulos is also on staff as soprano soloist and assistant conductor at St. James Episcopal Church.
