Student Accomplishments

Recent student accomplishments and awards include: Fulbright and Rotary Scholarships; Pi Kappa Lambda memberships; Fishoff National Chamber Music semifinalists & finalists; NATS winners; National MTNA Competition winners and finalists; ‘Outstanding’ Instrumentalists at Tanglewood; Metropolitan Opera Auditions Grand National Finalist, Regional and District winners; and EDIP International Competition winner.

Special Programs and Events

Nearly 350 recitals and concerts are held each year at the School of Music, most of which are free to the public.

  • Festival of Contemporary Music—oldest continuous festival of its kind; will celebrate its 62nd anniversary in 2007
  • Concert Spectacular—annual fundraiser combining various musical styles, a mixture of performance groups, and broad audience appeal
  • LSU Opera—two full scale opera productions per year
  • Tigerama—popular annual concert combining the Tiger Marching Band, the LSU Wind Ensemble
  • Candlelight Christmas Concerts—widely acclaimed and eagerly awaited concerts given by the A Cappella Choir
  • Music Academy—preparatory division of the School of Music
  • Honors Chamber Winds Summer Camp—coordinated by Department of Bands
  • Summer Musicals—combining Department of Theatre and School of Music students and faculty
  • Hot Summer Nights and Cool Jazz Summer Series

Attached to the M & D A Building are the Band Hall and Percussion Annex, separate structures designed for specific uses. Large ensemble concerts are held in the 1200-seat Union Theater.
