The
objective of the Friends of Music is to enhance the musical arts in the
State of Louisiana and beyond by supporting LSU music students and faculty
in the furtherance of their craft.
Since its beginning (1986), the Friends have provided support for:
- Support of School of Music Concert Spectacular
- Purchase of Wall of Honor for School of Music Lobby
- Purchase of equipment and furnishings for Student Computer Lab
- Student ensemble appearances at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall
- Purchase of specialized equipment
- Selected faculty/administrative travel
- Special events
On July 24, 2003 the School of MusicÕs most active and long-lived volunteer support organizations, the LSU School of Music Alumni Association and the LSU Friends of the School of Music merged into one entity. The new name of the group is Alumni and Friends of the LSU School of Music. A new Constitution and a new set of By-Laws were adopted unanimously by the Board of Directors of the "new" organization.
Article II of the new constitution states:
This organization is a voluntary association established for the purpose of promoting and supporting the educational programs of the School of Music. It shall be conducted as a non-profit organization for the purpose of strengthening the School of MusicÕs role within the University and throughout the United States by increasing its resources and enhancing its outreach.
The new structure provides for a continuation of the identities of both former constituent groups.

Membership Information
There are currently nearly 300 active members of the Friends of the LSU School of Music. As a Friend of Music, you are entitled to fringe benefits that include free or discounted tickets to music concerts/recitals and special publications that will allow you to keep up with the continuous growth and progress at the School while also enjoying first class concerts, recitals, and special music events.
