Faculty Vacancy - Artist/Teacher - Opera Coach

POSITION:

Professional-In-Residence, one-year appointment, full-time. Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

DUTIES:

Coach-accompanist and chorus master for LSU Opera. Possibility of conducting selected operatic productions. Reports to the Director of LSU Opera.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master of Music degree in Accompanying, Piano Performance, or similar professional experience and professional or academic experience as a coach-accompanist required. Moreover, the successful applicant should (1) demonstrate superior performance and sight reading skills as a collaborative pianist; (2) show strong language and IPA skills in Italian, French, and German, as well as a command of varying operatic styles within the repertory; (3) exhibit an ability to communicate these skills to individual singers of differing abilities; (4) demonstrate the ability to be an effective rehearsal pianist; and (5) conduct effective, organized chorus rehearsals and coaching sessions.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The LSU School of Music offers a comprehensive music program with nearly 500 majors. It has approximately 50 faculty, 10 professional staff, and 75 graduate assistants.  It sponsors nearly 300 recitals, concerts, operas, and lectures each academic year.  Degrees offered include the PhD (with concentrations in composition, music education, musicology, and music theory), DMA (concentrations in choral conducting, performance, wind conducting), MM, BM, BME, and BA (Liberal Arts).  LSU has an enrollment of nearly 30,000 students and is located in Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana and a city with a metropolitan area population of approximately 500,000.  The city supports a symphony orchestra, a ballet company, and a professional theatre.
