RANK/SALARY:

Assistant Professor, full-time, tenure-track; or Instructor, full-time. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

DUTIES:

Teach graduate and undergraduate music history courses.  Direct and advise MM and PhD musicology majors in theses and dissertations.  Maintain research and publication profile commensurate with expectations of a research extensive university. Serve on college/university committees as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate in music, documented success in the classroom, and a demonstrated record of publication success required for appointment at the assistant professor level. ABDs will be considered for appointment as Instructor if degree completion is imminent.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The LSU School of Music offers a comprehensive music program with nearly 500 majors. It has approximately 50 faculty, 10 professional staff, and 75 graduate assistants.  It sponsors over 300 recitals, concerts, operas, and lectures each academic year.  Degrees offered include the PhD (with concentrations in composition, music education, musicology, and music theory), DMA (concentrations in choral conducting, performance, wind conducting), MM, BM, BME, and BA (Liberal Arts).

LSU has an enrollment of approximately 29,000 students and is located in Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana and a city with a metropolitan area population of approximately 500,000.  The city supports a symphony orchestra, a ballet company, and professional theatre and opera companies.
